Mandatory target threatened

Australia's growing wind market could be thrown into chaos if the commonwealth government accepts a controversial call by the Council of Australia Governments to scrap the Mandated Renewable Energy Target (MRET). At least 2000 MW of wind project plans are moving ahead within the MRET framework. "Scrapping MRET would cost thousands of Australian jobs and billions of dollars of investment," says Ric Brazzale of the Australian Business Council for Sustainable Energy.
